What is KUMON!?

I continue to get asked what is Kumon!? With my two short weeks there I have learned.....

Kumon is not only a stellar Math, Reading and Pencil Skills program but -

Building character and independence is a must in our current Mama Bear society.

I tend to want to do everything for my kids and still expect them to see what I'm doing and automatically understand I am helping them.

Point of order- they don't.

Now that I'm in the big leagues- out of diapers and feeding schedules and worrying about everything- new worries for Kindergarten and Preschool present themselves.

My kids are taken care of with food, clothes, toys but are they being educationally stimulated?

Yes, we read books, talk and they go to good schools- but is there more I should be expecting?

Mind you- I was a teacher for 10 years- but I do not have access to Gold Star curriculum at home.

Kumon gave my 4 and 6 year old an assessment to see what level to start them. Everything is laid out and explained in a simple beautiful visual entitled, "Table Of Learning Materials" for parents.

Kumon takes reading, math and even pencil skills step by step and gives kids HOMEWORK to do and turn back in! Each day your child does 15-20 min. of their work independently, and on Mondays and Thursdays stop in anytime between 3pm and 6pm they go into Kumon studio
